Week 9
This week, I was able to learn and read about family stress. I recognized that how stress affects family relation. Personally, I am very stressed out with anything. Even if I am stressed, I can easily get rid of my stress by playing sports. What I figured is that if someone has a specific hobby, it would help him or her get less stressed because he or she can focus on other thing than stress. Also, I was thinking where I got stress from. I think I am stressed from college and the relationship with people. If I meet someone who I don't know that much, I have to put more focus and emotion. Meeting people is sometime hard. As student, of course studying is stressful. However, I have a hobby, so I am able to forget my stress while I am doing my hobby. That is why I am able to get rid of my stress easily.
However, personal stress is way different than family stress. This is something that I can't get rid of by myself. I need to have a help from my family. Since I am not married, I am not too sure about what kind of stresses married couples have. I thought of a couple reasons.
First, financial problem. I think it would cause some stress in family. When you are alone, you could spend your money for yourself, but when you are married even you have a kid, it will make a huge difference. You should think about your family first when you plan to spend money. In these days, money is a huge part of our life. Sometimes, you won't be able to make enough money to live, so it will cause stress.
Second, difference might cause stress. Marriage is the gathering of two different people and family. Since those two are different, they might have to adjust to each other. I could be stressful for a while until they got used to it. They will find new things a lot more. I have seen that many married couples struggled with it.
Another one is from outside of marriage like COVID-19. This caused so much stress to many of us. Sadly, someone died from it. Someone lost job. Many of us have to stay inside. It changed many things. Basically, we lost freedom at some point because they made so many rules to avoid COVID-19. This is something that we cannot control. It was stressful to wait until it went away. It still stays with us. It is still stressful for many people throughout the World.
There are so many more reasons that cause stress in family. However, I heard some interesting point of view on stress. Someone said that stress can motivate people to be good. I have never thought that stress motives me. It was more like letting me down and making me want nothing, but if I see differently, some stress might cause positive effect on me. For example, if your spouse is sad for some reason, it might be a stress for you. But it might motivate you to make her happy other than being sad with her or him. Because I look at stress in different view, I found myself do more things to get rid of stress. Stress can help me try something else from what I usually do.
Stress in family is something that family need to work together to get rid of. If their purpose doesn't match, it will cause more stress,. So they need to acknowledge each other, and understand their situation. It might help work together. I believe family support is a crucial help when I am stressed. I need to try my best to support and understand my family.
